History and Geography Facts

Injune is a small town at the base of the Carnarvon Ranges, 89km north of Roma, consisting of a population of 415 people. Injune might be small, but it contains vast bushlands, amazing views and stunning natural landscape.

The Maranoa is a dynamic and vibrant regional community in the South West of Queensland. From a proud history built around agriculture and mining, the region continues to grow and prosper today. Visitors are invited to enjoy a diverse range of experiences, from tranquil natural environments with superb and magnificent sandstone formations, to interpretative displays which celebrate the culture and history of the region.

The district around Injune was discovered by explorer Ludwig Leichhardt when he crossed the Dawson River near Taroom in 1844.

Injune has a subtropical climate with warm to hot summers and cool winters with rainfall concentrated in the summer months. A record low temperature of −8.0 °C (17.6 °F) is one of the coldest temperatures recorded in Queensland outside of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.

While in town, make sure you visit Carnarvon Ranges, Expedition National Park (Lonesome section), Expedition National Park (Beilba section), Arcadia Valley Loop, Nuga Nuga National Park, Henricks Park, Injune Lagoon Walk, Wild Dog barrier fence, Mt Moffatt and Characters of Injune.
